The World’s Most Famous Zoo
It’s the climate that allows for the incredible collection of exotic animals and aquatic life you’ll see at the San Diego Zoo. The Zoo first opened in 1916 now sees tens of thousands of visitors each year and is one of San Diego’s biggest tourist draws. The Zoo is located on the northeast side of the city of San Diego, within Historic Balboa Park.
The San Diego Zoo houses some 4000 animals along with aquatic life and birds – 8000 species in all. From Giraffes to Panda Bears to Koalas, visitors get a good look at some of the most rare and exotic species. For those who would like an aerial view of the Zoo grounds, the Aerial Tramway built in 1969 gives you a ride from one side to the other.
For those who want more adventure, the San Diego Zoo also operates Wild Safari Park near Escondido. Other San Diego tourist attractions include Seaworld, Oceanside Pier, Seaport Village, USS Midway Aircraft Carrier, Hotel Del Coronado, and La Jolla Cove.
